Generative AI in healthcare
It's really happening!
We live in a world where generative artificial intelligence (AI) is dominating several sectors. We have finally caught up to the hype in healthcare. While AI can produce what you are reading faster than I can type, it is lacking taste. I will attempt to humbly connect dots in this space as it rapidly transforms and ultimately replaces me in my work.
Generative AI in clinical documentation and care delivery
While the market has a few players, the major competitors in generative AI clinical documentation are Microsoft acquired Nuance and well-positioned startup Abridge. A point for a human here: I am not referring to market share (although it is likely to line up) in confidently stating consistent competitors. It’s about these companies’ ability to market and influence customers in addition to how “intelligent” the money is in backing this technology that allows me to speculate.
Major healthcare systems deploying generative AI technology at gasping speed signals more doubling down of the technology, likely in-house. What will likely happen is that these market solutions will gain significant traction early on, but the major healthcare systems will make an attempt on controlling this technology over time.
Implications are vast, especially if models can be trained on clinical decision making. Including solving a major equitable, access issue in global healthcare.
